In The Heights- A Memorial Encore Performance

Early this morning we received permission from Rodgers and Hammerstein for a special Encore performance of In The Heights this Saturday evening, May 11th at 7:00pm.

This very special show will be dedicated to the memory of Dan Wheeless, so suddenly taken from us this past weekend.  Tickets are on sale, online, at ShowTix4U.  Just click that link to be taken to the ticket site.   Attending this performance will many of Dan’s friends and colleagues from his theater company, Ground Up Productions.  In addition, the Wagner Theater Parents Club has announced that all profits from refreshment and other sales that evening will be donated to FACES, the Fight Against Childhood Epilepsy and Seizures, NYU Langone Medical Center in recognition of his family’s wishes.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the show to join us in one more Carnaval! and to pay tribute to a truly wonderful person.

From Wagner’s Media Arts Program…A Look at Opening Night

While this web page is dedicated to the Wagner High School theater program, there are over a dozen other learning centers within the school, and we try to work together on various projects.  Two students in our Media Program, John Tashiro and John Madigan, were at opening night with their cameras and they put this together.  It is simply amazing.

(Unfortunately, because of copyright restrictions, they can’t use music from the show.  YouTube will take the video down if they do.)

Wagner HS Theater on NY1 News!

NY1 News came to our rehearsal on Sunday not to just see how the show is going, but to highlight the role that many of the student performers had in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy last fall.  Some of our performers were directly affected by it, with their homes sustaining severe damage.

Tickets are available online- just click the link in the ad at on the right.

Photos from Today’s Dress Rehearsal

Today was the first day the cast performed the entire show, in costume with the orchestra.  Anyone who has been in any kind of theatrical production knows that very first run through with the orchestra and costumes can be exhausted and take a very long time.  Today was no different, but overall it went well and the show, as these few photos show is coming along great and with just thirteen days until opening night, the finish line is approaching very fast!  We’ll post more photos later in the week and some video as well.

A Few Photos of the Cast and Set

Spring break?  What break?  For theater, spring break just means rehearsal starts at 9:30am and not 3:00pm.  While we only had about half the cast today, we put them all on stage for a few photos to showcase them and the massive set.   Yesterday, the first tower of our George Washington Bridge went up, the New Jersey tower will be up soon.  You can click on the photos to see them at full size.
