Our Facilities

The theater program uses two main performance spaces.  The first is our 898 seat Auditorium.  While not designed for complex theater (not enough fly space, work space, etc.), it has a large stage that measures just over 40 feet wide by almost 30 deep.   Our second space is a Black Box Theater that also serves as the theater program’s classroom.   From the building’s opening in 1968 until about 2005, the room was a sculpture classroom.  With all of that equipment removed, risers for chairs built, and theatrical lighting installed (and upgraded over the years), we have a intimate performance space that seats about 80 people.

In our Auditorium, the technical side of things received two major upgrades over the past ten years.  In 2001, a permanent sound system, utilizing wireless microphones was installed for the first time.  In 2006, grants from local politicians and the New York State Power Authority provided the funds for a modern theatrical lighting system.  In addition, our school and the Auditorium are fully handicapped accessible.  Outside the building, there are two ramps to avoid the steps to the main entrance.  In the Auditorium, there is space just in front of the balcony seats for wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

In 2011, the success of our production of Les Misérables, brought a budget allocation of almost $300,000 from Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro to further upgrade and renew the systems in the Auditorium.

Our Sound System:

  • 64 channel, Yamaha LS-9 Digital Mixing Board
  • 20 Shure SLX Wireless Receivers with either Shure MX Lavalier mics or Countryman B3 headsets; we also have four Shure SM58 handheld wireless microphones.
  • A four speaker center array provides the main sound reinforcement which can be supplements with as many as four front or side fill speakers.

Our Lighting System:

  • ETC Ion control board with a 2 x10 Fader Wing.
  • Over the stage, there are four electric battens with 76 three pin connectors.  The first three hold a combination of ETC Source Four PAR and Source Four fixtures.  In addition, we have ten ETC Selador Desire D40 LED luminaires.
  • Our Front of House lighting, in the ceiling area consists of 20 ETC Source Four fixtures.
  • Finally, we have two vertical lighting booms mounted in the Auditorium that each hold six ETC Source Four Zoom lamps
