Photos from Today’s Dress Rehearsal

Today was the first day the cast performed the entire show, in costume with the orchestra.  Anyone who has been in any kind of theatrical production knows that very first run through with the orchestra and costumes can be exhausted and take a very long time.  Today was no different, but overall it went well and the show, as these few photos show is coming along great and with just thirteen days until opening night, the finish line is approaching very fast!  We’ll post more photos later in the week and some video as well.

A Few Photos of the Cast and Set

Spring break?  What break?  For theater, spring break just means rehearsal starts at 9:30am and not 3:00pm.  While we only had about half the cast today, we put them all on stage for a few photos to showcase them and the massive set.   Yesterday, the first tower of our George Washington Bridge went up, the New Jersey tower will be up soon.  You can click on the photos to see them at full size.

In The Heights– New Rehearsal Video!!

It’s a little shaky, taken with an iPhone, but one of the classic songs from In The Heights is 96,000. Here’s the Wagner High cast rehearsing the song this afternoon on the stage. Click the Ticket Purchase link in the top menu to buy your tickets for this incredible show today!!

An Experiment With the Band and a Big Dance Rehearsal

In our last video preview, you heard the incredible voices of our ensemble.  Today, something different.  The longest and most choreographed number in the show is The Club.  It runs about seven minutes, about six are here.  In this video, you can see much of that choreography on our stage, along with the fabulous sound of our band.  The experiment is that for the first time in Wagner theatrical production, you can’t see the band!

In most professional shows, the orchestra is in a pit, or under the stage, or even in another room.  We’ve never been able to do that until now.  Since the set for In The Heights does not move, Stage Left (the audience’s right side) provides an open space for the band.  The actors will not have to sing and project “over” the band sitting in front of them.  So even without microphones, you can just about hear the actors.  (Don’t worry- there will be at about 16 microphones on the actors, and few more above them during the show!)  We have about seven weeks to make what you see and hear in this video, perfect.  If you have seen our past shows, you know we will do just that.  To see it “perfect” buy your In The Heights tickets now by clicking here.

77 Days and counting…
